Major D P Singh ran his 1 st three half marathons (HM) on a walking prosthesis (not meant for running purpose). Looking at his extraordinary feat, in 2011, he was supported with a “Blade prosthesis” by the Indian Army. After running his 4 th HM, 1 st with Blade, Major Singh saw the dream of participation in Paralympics.
However, the reality was far from dream. Due to various challenges, including financial, he chose to give up his personal dream and set the system for many young amputees/disabled, the budding para-athletes, to let them fulfil their dream of winning medals in Paralympics. A budding and promising para-athletes undergo far more challenging times than what an able-bodied athlete does. It is very difficult for him/her to adapt his life with disability, train and perform to prove his worth, especially in the beginning, when no one is there to support with finances, coaching, diet and allied needs.
BATp (Budding Athletes Training program) is therefore launched by The Challenging Ones in year 2019 to support talented, budding, prospective medal winning athletes. It is one of the many humble initiatives of TCO in which a promising para-athlete is hand held for his/her training needs. TCO may not have big corpus of funds but have heart at right place and understand the need of budding promising para-athletes. TCO believes that even if one athlete is supported, an initiative has been taken in right direction to bring the change.
TCO believes to augment the existing system of Govt of India in our own humble way. What is important is to follow, “how can I bring the change by my action”.
